Hot on the heels of reporting on Lamborghini’s invitation to the 2012 Beijing Auto Show which had a sketch of the new SUV’s profile, the first images of Lambo’s SUV concept have hit the web.
The license plate on the concept reveals that the new raging bull will be called the Urus. Just in case you were curious, the Urus (or Auroch) was a now extinct type of large wild cattle which inhabited Europe, Asia and North Africa, and was the ancestor of domestic cattle.
The Urus appears to be more like the BMW X6, sporting a coupe-like roofline and silhouette as opposed to the VW group’s other more truck like SUV offerings. The Urus is expected to share its platform with the next-generation Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and the upcoming Bentley SUV, but is likely to be lighter than all of those. Power should be provided by a 5.2-liter V10 that produces around 584 horsepower.
On the outside, it adopts the same jet fighter / UFO design language as Lamborghini’s most recent creations like the Aventador, which also inspired the styling of the interior.
I wonder though, does the world need yet another high end “sport” SUV or crossover? Is this really a market niche that Lamborghini should be in? Let us know your thoughts and stay tuned for more news over the next few days.
